Pilobolus’s Other Worlds Collection traverses the spaces we inhabit—from the realms within ourselves, society, and the universe—with wit, wisdom, and whimsy. The collection features collaborations with visionaries who see life through the lens of theatre, music, and dance. Repertoire audiences may experience includes:
Tales from the Underworld, a Pilobolean story ballet created with award-winning playwright and director Aaron Posner and multi-instrumentalist and composer Stuart Bogie, delves into the emotional worlds of love and loss, examining the powerful tension that binds the two.
Awaken Heart, made with choreographer and former Pilobolus dancer Gaspard Louis, is a tender piece featuring four dancers that evokes the sentimental world of memory and youth as it explores the beauty and transience of relationships.
Pilobolus's Executive/Co-Artistic Director Renée Jaworski and Artistic Director Matt Kent's new work, Bloodlines, embodies a playful yet evocative vibrance, foundational to the Pilobolus ecosystem, enriched by a fresh and deeply personal perspective. Bloodlines explores the world of family through a sculptural women’s duet that pays homage to the bonds that endure as the roles between generations transform and evolve.
Inspired by original Pilobolus dancer Lee Harris’s passion for flying and his memories of the company’s fledgling days, new work Flight embarks on a transcendent exploration of the human fascination with the skies. Accompanied by the evocative score of long-time music collaborator Paul Sullivan, Flight is a daring piece that captures our eternal desire to soar beyond the confines of reality.
Lamentation, which celebrates the centennial anniversary of the Martha Graham Dance Company—GRAHAM100—by bringing Pilobolus’s interpretation of Graham’s seminal work to the stage as part of the Lamentation Variations Project. One of the most physically demanding works in the company’s canon—Particle Zoo—also punctuates the collection, among others.
Pilobolus’s Other Worlds Collection is a journey through the multitudes of the human condition, fusing sensuality, humor, and extraordinary physical prowess into a performance that will leave audiences spellbound.
